HCI would love to have you come and volunteer with us!

We have many opportunities for your valuable assistance. We are open and flexible with your time commitment. Here are some positions we are trying to fill now.
Just a few hours a week will make a world of difference.

Volunteer Position:  Homebuyers Education Class Instructor
Location: Gaithersburg, MD 20877
Responsibilities: Teaching Homebuyers Education classes.
Skills needed: 

Must be a licensed realtor, lender, appraiser, or settlement attorney looking to give back to the community through education for first-time homebuyers, particularly low to moderate income families. A non-solicitation form must be signed by all teachers. Knowledge of Spanish and other languages is a plus.

Days and time:  Weekday evenings/Saturday - a minimum of 4 times a year.

Volunteer Position:  Data Entry
Location: Gaithersburg, MD 20877
Responsibilities:

Entering contact information about clients served.

Input of statistical data regarding clients served.

Skills needed: 

Accurate typing.

Excellent attention to detail.

Basic knowledge of Microsoft Access.

Days and time:  3 to 9 hours per week.  Flexible schedule during regular office hours.

Volunteer Position: Bilingual Office Assistant (English / Spanish)
Location:  Gaithersburg, MD 20877
Responsibilities:

General office management, including typing, filing, copying, answering telephone, scheduling and confirming instructors for homeownership classes, registering clients for educational sessions, monitoring the office supplies inventory.

Assist in the development, reproduction, and distribution of educational materials to promote our program and outreach to potential clients.

Data entry: establishing a client and volunteer database, research, and reports.

Clerical: assemble educational packets, order office supplies, assisting with bulk mailings.

Sharing any other talents and skills as needed.

Skills needed: 

Good written and oral communication skills in English and in Spanish.
Good typing skills (speed and accuracy).

Excellent attention to detail.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
Bilingual ability is a must.

Days and time: 20 hours per week. Flexible schedule during regular office hours.

Volunteer Position:  Activities / Events Assistant
Location:  Gaithersburg, MD 20877
Responsibilities: 

Provide assistance to staff on community outreach activities.

Provide assistance to Board of Directors on fundraising activities.

Promote events and help prior to, during, and after them.
Provide outreach in the community (create/distribute flyers, contact media outlets, order promotional/printing items).

Skills needed:  

Good personal skills.

Good communications skills.

Knowledge of Microsoft Word.

Days and time:

Minimum 3 hours per week when needed.
Flexible schedule during regular office hours.

Volunteer Position: Board of Directors - Member
Location:    Gaithersburg, MD 20877
Responsibilities:

Attend monthly Board of Directors meetings (second Friday of the month).
Serve on a Board of Directors committee (education, personnel, development, and membership).
Promote the agency and its mission throughout the community.
Participate in fundraising events.
Assist in strategic planning process, setting policies, goals, and sound financial management for the agency.  
Advocate on behalf of housing issues as it relates to the mission.

Skills needed

Background in real estate, mortgage lending, settlement law, or other housing industry professions.  Interest in community service with background in community involvement.
Bilingual professionals and minorities are encouraged to apply.
Good networking, communication, and writing skills

Days and time:  

3 to 9 hours per week.

Volunteer Position: Computer Support
Location:  Gaithersburg, MD 20877

Responsibilities:

Support computer operations, including system set-up, software installation, simple computer repair. Test and repair donated computers.
Networking, databases, programming.
Skills needed:   

Good computer skills.
Experience in Microsoft Office (Access and Excel).

Days and time:  Minimum of 2 hours per week.  Flexible schedule during regular office hours.

Volunteer Position: Web Design / Maintenance
Location:    Gaithersburg, MD 20877
Responsibilities: Responsible for updating Web site periodically.
Skills needed:

Experience in HTML, FrontPage, ASP.
Experience in Web site creation and maintenance.
Experience in Microsoft FrontPage, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Days and time: Flexible schedule during regular office hours, evenings or weekends.

Volunteer Position: Translator / Interpreter
Location: Gaithersburg, MD 20877
Responsibilities: Assist Board of Directors and staff in their efforts to reach minority language communities through programs and services. Translate materials into Spanish and/or other languages. Provide assistance in Spanish and/or other languages during events. Provide sign language interpreting to clients for our 3-hour homebuyers education class.
Skills needed:   Good foreign-language writing and speaking skills.
Knowledge of Microsoft Word.
Days and time:  Flexible schedule during regular office hours, evenings, or weekends.
